About Maple Park
Maple Park was opened in September 1962 as one of two new junior high schools in the district. Antioch opened at the same time, and both schools followed the opening of Northgate and Eastgate in 1957 and 1958 respectively. Maple Park was the first air-conditioned secondary school in the Missouri Valley Region. New Mark Junior High was added later in 1973, making a total of five district junior high schools.
The first change to the middle school concept came during a district reorganization at the end of the 1979-1980 school year. That year, elementary schools became grades K-5 instead of K-6, and the new middle schools housed grades 6-8. In fall of 2018, Maple Park Middle School again went through a transition as North Kansas City Schools opened new 6th grade centers. Between elementary and middle school, Maple Park students will attend Eastgate 6th Grade Center.
Elementary feeder schools that bring students to Maple Park include Gracemor, Maplewood, Ravenwood, Lakewood, Winnwood and Topping. Maple Park graduates attend Winnetonka High School for their 9th-12th grade education. All eight schools are part of the Winnetonka family.
